I sit on the docks, legs in the water. It’s cloudy out and I can smell that it might rain. Rain has a peculiar scent, it’s made stronger by the oceans. I look out at the sea and the soon to be stormy sky. I don't know why but it’s calming, especially with the lighthouse light in the distance. I guess the storms of the sea remind me of my inner anger, my rage. I’m angry and upset about what my bully does to me in school. I have my violin with me. I’m pretty sure the salty sea air isn’t good for the bow and strings, but I don’t care. I poured my heart out in song. I was playing my favorite song, Master of Tides by Lindsey Stirling. I learned how to play it by ear. So I started playing it. I play for the sea, and no one else. Only the cold waters of the sea that splash against my bare feet. I close my eyes and start playing. It seems as the world stands still when I play. The seas seem calm, the sky holds its rain, the melody plays all over the seas. It’s my tribute to the sea. The sea and it’s beautiful creatures. The song isn’t even mine and Lindsey Stirling plays it far better than I can. But it still seems to calm the sea. Maybe the sea god is pleased? Unlike the rest of my family, I believe in a sea god. Maybe his nymphs and sirens bring him my melody. Maybe the oceans waves carry my melody to him, or the winds and storms. Whatever brings my melody to him, he seems to like it. I’ve been practicing that song for many years, about since the time it came out and when I first heard it in 2014. I was 11 at that time. I’m 16 now. I’ve been practicing that song for five years. I started playing the violin when I was six. It was my choice. I always practice other songs when at home or at school. But Master of Tides… I practice it on the beach. It’s fitting for the song. I’ve been called the beach violinist because of this, and people have given me money. I guess it’s a good way to earn some pocket money, but that’s not why I play. I play for the sea, and only the sea.
